CSIR NET 2023: Candidates interested for the Junior Research Fellowships can apply online for the CSIR NET 2023. The eligibility test is conducted twice a year- in June and in December and the candidates can apply for any of them. Applications will be released in March 2023 for June exam and September 2023 for December exam. The candidates are suggested to ensure their eligibility before applying for the exam. The test also determines the eligibility of candidates for Lectureship positions in Indian University/ Colleges.

CSIR NET 2023 Eligibility Criteria

The basic eligibility for CSIR NET exam 2023 is provided below:

Age limit:

  • For JRF (NET): The maximum age of the candidates should be 28 years as on 1st January 2023 (for June exam) or 1st July 2023 (for December exam).
  • For Lectureship (NET), there is no upper age limit.

Qualification:

  • An M.Sc degree/ BS degree/ integrated BS-MS degree/ BE/ B.Tech/ B.Pharma/ MBBS degree/ B.Sc (Hons)/ Integrated MS-PhD program with not less than 55% marks for General/ OBC candidates and 50% for SC/ ST/ PWD candidates is required.
  • Candidates in their final year M.Sc programme are eligible too given that they complete the qualifying degree with requisite percentage of marks within the validity period of the fellowship.
  • The candidates possessing only Bachelor’s degree are eligible to apply only for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and not for Lectureship (LS)/ Associate Professor.

CSIR NET 2023 Application Form

The application form for CSIR NET 2023 will be released in online mode on the official website csirnet.nta.nic.in. The candidates who meet the eligibility requirements can proceed with their application submission.

  • Candidates first need to register themselves providing unique email id and mobile number after which they can proceed to fill the application form.
  • To fill the application form, the candidates will have to provide their basic personal and educational details.
  • Applicants are also required to upload scanned copies of documents like photograph, signature, category certificate, PWD certificate, etc into application form.
  • After carefully providing all the details as asked in the application form, the candidates can submit it online along with the prescribed application fee.
  • The applicants should retain a printout of the application form along with them in case of future reference.
  • In order to avoid last minutes rush, the candidates are advised to apply early enough.
  • If a candidate submits more than one application, only the last application will be considered.

Candidates can make payment of the application fee online via debit card/ credit card/ net banking/ UPI/ PayTM. The application fee structure for different category candidates is provided below.

Scheme of the test

The Test Booklet will be divided into three parts A, B & C.

  • Part ‘A’ shall be common to all subjects. This part shall contain questions pertaining to General Aptitude with emphasis on logical reasoning, graphical analysis, analytical and numerical ability, quantitative comparison, series formation, puzzles etc.
  • Part ‘B’ shall contain subject-related conventional Multiple Choice questions (MCQs), generally covering the topics given in the syllabus.
  • Part ‘C’ shall contain higher value questions that may test the candidate’s knowledge of scientific concepts and/or application of the scientific concepts. The questions shall be of analytical nature where a candidate is expected to apply the scientific knowledge to arrive at the solution to the given scientific problem.

CSIR NET 2023 Admit Card

  • The admit card for the NET exam will be made available on the official website of NTA a few weeks before the exam.
  • The candidates will be able to download the admit card using the application number generated after the submission of the application form.
  • A printout of the admit card should be taken to be carried to the exam center along with a valid photo identity proof and one passport size photograph.
  • No candidate will be allowed to appear for the exam if they report to the exam center without these documents.
  • Candidates must note that the admit card is an important document that should be kept safe till the fellowship is granted.

CSIR NET 2023 Result

  • Result of the CSIR NET 2023 exam will be released through online mode on the official NTA website.
  • Merit list of those who clear the exam will be prepared by the authorities on the basis of performance in the eligibility test.
  • Two separate merit lists, one comprising of the candidates qualifying for the award of JRF NET and the second, of those qualifying for LS NET will be made.

Fellowship Award

  • Candidates qualifying for JRF NET will also be eligible for Lectureship NET subject to fulfilling the eligibility criteria.
  • The candidates qualifying for Lectureship will be eligible to be considered for recruitment as Lecturers as well as for Junior Research Fellowship in a Scheme/ Project, if suitable.
  • However, such candidates will not be eligible for the Regular JRF NET Fellowship.
  • The award of Joint CSIR NET Fellowship is for a fixed tenure and does not imply any assurance or guarantee for subsequent employment.

Ans: Upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years in case of SC/ ST/ PWD/ female applicants and 3 years in case of OBC (Non Creamy Layer) applicants.


Ans: Yes you can provide the choice for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) or Lectureship (LS) or both as per your wish and eligibility at the time of application.
