KVPY 2023: Application Form, Exam Date, Eligibility Criteria

KVPY 2023: The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is a scholarship program to encourage the candidates studying Basic Sciences to take up research career in Science. Basic Sciences means the following courses- B.Sc/ BS/ B.Statistics/ B.Mathematics/ Int. M.Sc/ Int. MS). An aptitude test will be conducted for shortlisting the candidates followed by an interview. Qualifying both these rounds will make the candidates eligible for the fellowship award. Interested candidates will have to submit their applications for the aptitude test in online mode tentatively form July 2023. KVPY 2023

  • Candidates are suggested to ensure their eligibility before making the applications. Candidates found ineligible will not be offered fellowship even after clearing the test and interview.
  • For any information related to application form, the candidates can call on 080- 22932975/ 76, 080- 23601008 or send an email to applications.kvpy@iisc.ac.in.
  • The admit card to appear for the KVPY 2023 aptitude test will be made available in online mode only.
  • KVPY does not allow its fellows to receive simultaneous fellowship/ scholarship from more than one source. In case the candidates are in receipt of any other fellowship or scholarship, they will have to lose it in order to avail the KVPY Fellowship.
  • The fellowship for the SA stream candidates will be effective from 1st August 2023 and for SX/ SB stream candidates, it will be effective from 1st August 2023.

KVPY 2023 Eligibility Criteria

The following eligibility criteria must be fulfilled by the candidates aspiring to appear for KVPY 2023:

Stream SA:

  • The candidates studying in class XI in the academic year 2023-22 with Science stream can apply for KVPY 2023 given that they have obtained a minimum of 75% marks (65% marks for SC/ ST/ PWD category candidates) in aggregate of Mathematics and Science in their class 10th board exams.
  • The 10th board exam must have been cleared by the students immediately in the preceding academic year.
  • Candidates who appear and clear the KVPY test must also secure at least 60% marks in aggregate (50% marks for SC/ ST/ PWD category candidates) in Science subjects in 12th board exam.
  • The fellowship of the selected students will only be activated if they join an undergraduate course in Basic Sciences in the academic year 2023-24.

Stream SX:

  • Students studying in class XII in the academic year 2023-24 with Science stream and aspiring to join undergraduate program in Basic Sciences in the year 2022 are eligible provided they have secured a minimum of 75% marks (65% marks for SC/ ST/ PWD category candidates) in aggregate of Mathematics and Science in their class 10th board exams in the academic year 2023-24.
  • Candidates who appear and clear the KVPY test must also secure at least 60% marks in aggregate (50% marks for SC/ ST/ PWD category candidates) in Science subjects in 12th board exam.
  • The fellowship of the selected students will only be activated if they join an undergraduate course in Basic in the academic year 2022-23.
  • Students in their 2nd year of study in Cambridge International Examination Board and aspiring to join an UG program in Basic Sciences in the academic year 2023-24 are eligible to apply provided they have secured a minimum of 75% marks (65% marks for SC/ ST/ PWD category candidates) in aggregate in Mathematics and Science in their class 10th board exams.
  • A minimum aggregate of 60% marks (50% marks for SC/ ST/ PWD category candidates) in aggregate of Mathematics and Science subjects is also required in the class 12th board exams.

Stream SB:

  • Students enrolled in the 1st year of undergraduate program in Basic Sciences in the academic year 2020-21 and having secured a minimum of 60% marks (50% marks for SC/ ST/ PWD category candidates) in aggregate of Mathematics and Science subjects in the 12th board exams.
  • Additionally, the 12th board exams must have been cleared immediately in the preceding academic year.
  • Such candidates must also secure not less than 60% marks (50% marks for SC/ ST/ PWD category candidates) in the final examination of their B.Sc/ BS/ B.Statistics/ B.Mathematics/ Int. M.Sc/ Int. MS 1st year course.

KVPY 2023 Application Form

The application form for KVPY 2023 will be released in online mode on the official website www.kvpy.iisc.ernet.in. Those who fulfill the eligibility for the test can fill their applications most probably from July 2023 onwards.

  • Candidates will have to provide some basic personal and educational details into the application form.
  • Photograph and signature of the candidates will also be uploaded online into the application form as per the prescribed format.
  • After providing all details into the application form, it can be submitted online with the required application fee.
  • An application number of the candidates will be generated after the application is submitted.
  • Upon successful submission, the candidates should take a printout of their application form and keep it for future reference.
  • Applicants are suggested not to send the printout of application or copy of any other document to the IISc.

Application fee:

  • The application fee will be Rs. 1000/- for general candidates and Rs. 500/- for SC /ST/ PWD candidates.
  • Submission of fee can be done through online mode using credit card/ debit card/ internet banking or through offline mode using e-Challan.

KVPY 2023 Admit Card

  • Students will be able to download the admit card from the official website from the month of October 2023
  • After downloading, the candidates should take its printout to be carried to the exam center.
  • In addition to the admit card, students must bring a valid identity proof with clear photograph.
  • Details of exam center will be mentioned on the admit card itself. Other details of the exam and the students will also be printed on the admit card.
  • No candidates will be allowed to enter the examination hall in the absence of the admit card and therefore it must be carried while reporting to the exam center.

KVPY 2023 Exam Pattern

*All questions are compulsory in Stream SA. There is an option to attempt any three sections in Part I & any two sections in Part II in Stream SB/ SX. In case candidate attempts more sections, best of three in Part I and best of two in Part II is considered.

Syllabus

As such, there is no prescribed syllabus for the aptitude test. The test aims to assess the understanding and analytical ability of the student rather than factual knowledge. However, the syllabus comprise of the topics up to class X/ XII/ 1st year of B.Sc/ BS/ B.Statistics/ B.Mathematics/ Int. M.Sc/ Int. MS level, as applicable.

Result & Interview

  • The result of the aptitude test will be announced few weeks after the commencement of the test.
  • Candidates who clear this exam will be shortlisted for the interview round which will be the last round of the selection process.
  • Final result will be declared on the basis of combined performance of the candidates in the aptitude test (75% weightage) and interview (25% weightage).
  • Applicants can check their results through the official website by entering their application number and date of birth.
  • Finally selected candidates will be eligible for the KVPY Fellowship Award subject to verification of the required documents.
