JEE Exam (Main & Advanced) Information

Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is a national level renowned engineering entrance exam conducted for admission to Engineering, Architecture and Allied programmes at numerous reputed government, private and centrally funded institutes including IITs and NITs. Earlier, two different exams namely AIEEE and IIT-JEE was conducted which has replaced by JEE in the year 2012 by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

JEE exam is conducted in two major phases namely, JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Without qualifying the JEE Main no candidates will be permitted to appear in JEE Advanced. Candidates having dream of getting admission to IITs and Indian School of Mines Dhanbad, they must need to clear JEE Advanced test.

There are some institutes namely Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs), and the Indian Institute of Science which accept JEE Advanced score for admitting students in its different engineering programmes, however they do not participate in central IIT JEE Advanced counseling.

Exam Pattern

JEE Main Exam Pattern

  • JEE Main consists of two papers namely, Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 is conducted for admission to B.E/B.Tech programme, whereas paper 2 is organized for aspirants looking for admission to B.Arch/B.Planning programmes.
  • Talking about the exam mode of paper 1 & 2, Paper 1 is held in online & offline mode whereas Paper 2 is conducted only in offline mode.

JEE Advanced Exam Pattern

  • There will be two papers in the exam namely Paper 1 and Paper 2.
  • It is essential to appear in both the mentioned papers.
  • Each paper will consist of three sections namely Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
  • Types of questions will be multiple choice and numerical answer type.
  • There will be negative marking, but not for every question.
  • Question paper will be available in English and Hindi.

Candidates who qualify the JEE Main are only eligible to appear in JEE Advanced. As per the previous years’ exam analysis, almost 150,000 students appear in the exam.

How to Apply?

Candidates will be able to apply for JEE (Main & Advanced) from their respective official website. Official portal to apply for JEE Main is http://jeemain.nic.in/ where candidates can apply for JEE Advanced at http://www.jeeadv.ac.in/. JEE Main application will be obtainable in the month of November where, application form for JEE Advanced can be obtained in the month of April.

Admit card and Result of JEE (Main and Advanced) will be obtainable from its respective website.

Counseling Information

CBSE and CSAB are two independent boards responsible to conduct an overall admission procedure through JEE Main & Advanced score. CBSE are only responsible for conducting JEE Main exam and declaring the merit list. After declaration of the JEE Main merit list, Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) use the merit list for JEE Main counseling procedure.
