CLAT 2023: Admission into the various National Law Universities is granted to the candidates on the basis of Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). It is a national level examination organized by the participating NLUs on a rotational basis. The application form for the exam has been released on 8th August 2022 through online mode. CLAT 2023

  • Candidates of foreign nationality are exempted from appearing in CLAT and can apply for direct admission.
  • It is important that the candidates check their eligibility before applying for the admission test.
  • The CLAT score is valid for admission into National Law Universities and other private law colleges as well.
  • Choice for the NLU in which the candidate seeks admission must be provided at the time of filling the application form.
  • Answer key will be released by the authorities on the basis of which results will be declared. Any kind of objections can be submitted on the answer key but not on the result.

CLAT 2023 Eligibility Criteria

The basic eligibility criteria to appear for the CLAT 2023 exam are discussed here:

For undergraduate course:

  • Nationality: Candidates of Indian nationality, NRIs and NRI sponsored candidates can apply.
  • Qualification: A pass in class 12th or equivalent exam with a minimum of 45% aggregate marks (40% marks for SC/ ST candidates) is required.

For postgraduate course:

  • Nationality: Indian national candidates and NRIs/ NRI sponsored candidates are eligible.
  • Qualification: The applicants should have passed LLB or integrated LLB scoring not less than 55% marks in aggregate (50% marks for SC/ ST candidates).

CLAT 2023 Application Form

CLAT 2023 application form can be obtained from the official website clat.ac.in. Interested and eligible candidates can proceed with the online application filling from 8th August 2022 onwards.

  • Candidates will first have to register themselves providing basic details such as name, email address, contact number, etc.
  • After successful registration, a provisional registration number and password will be generated that can be used to obtain the application form.
  • In the application form, the candidates will have to enter their rest personal and academic details.
  • Candidates will also be required to upload the scanned copies of their photograph and signature into the application form.
  • After providing all the details correctly into the application form, the candidates can submit it online with the prescribed application fee.
  • Once the form is submitted, the candidates are advised to take it printout and keep it with them for future correspondence.

Application fee:

  • The candidates need to pay an amount of Rs. 4000/- (Rs. 3500/- for SC/ ST candidates) as application fee.
  • Candidates can also get the previous years’ question papers by paying an additional amount of Rs. 500/-.
  • Application fee payment can be done online through net banking/ debit card/ credit card/ or offline through e-Challan.

CLAT 2023 Admit Card

  • Applicants who submit their application form on time can download their admit card and appear for exam.
  • The admit card will be released through online mode on the official CLAT website.
  • On the admit card, basic details of the candidates like name, gender, etc and details of the exam like center and timing will be mentioned.
  • Candidates should download their admit using the registration details and take its printout to be carried to exam center.
  • Without a valid admit card, the candidates will not be allowed to appear for the exam.

  • Marking scheme: 1 mark will be given for each right answer
  • Negative marking: 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer

CLAT 2023 Syllabus

The overview of the CLAT 2023 syllabus is provided below.

For undergraduate course:

  • Elementary Mathematics (Numerical Ability): Questions from Mathematics up to class 10th level will be asked.
  • English including Comprehension: Reading Comprehension, Word Meanings, Correction Of Incorrect Sentences, Grammar, Filling In The Blanks, etc
  • Logical Reasoning: Logical Links, Logical Sequences, Identification Of Patterns, Rectification Of Illogical Arguments, Syllogisms, Analogies, etc
  • Legal Aptitude: Questions to test interest of the candidates towards the study of law, research aptitude and problem solving ability, questions including legal propositions (described in the paper), and a set of facts to which the said proposition has to be applied (assuming that these propositions are true)
  • General Knowledge and Current Affairs: Static General Knowledge, National And International Current Affairs, etc

For postgraduate course:

Questions will be asked from the topics of Jurisprudence, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, International Law, IPR etc as studied by the candidates in their LLB course.

CLAT 2023 Result

  • The candidates will be able to check their CLAT 2023 result through online mode by visiting the official website clat.ac.in.
  • Based on the marks obtained in the admission test, a rank list of the candidates will be prepared.
  • The list will contain the All India Rank, name, roll number and registration number of the candidates.
  • A centralized online counseling of the candidates will then be held as per their names in the rank list.

CLAT 2023 Admission

  • At the time of counseling, the candidates will be allotted seats in different NLUs as per their ranking and their choice.
  • Those who are allotted a seat will be required to report to the college to complete the formalities of admission.
  • Original documents of the candidates will also be verified before granting them admission.
  • Final admission is subject to verification of documents and payment of required fees.
