CDS Application Form: Important Dates, How to Apply?

UPSC is the body responsible for conducting the Combined Defense Services (CDS) examination twice a year. It is a national level recruitment exam for passionate individuals who want to make a career in Indian Defense Services be it Indian Army, Indian Navy or Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, and Officers Training Academy.

CDS Application Form Requirements

Aspirants will be required to provide the mentioned records while filling the online application form for CDS –

  • Caste and community certificate (if applicable)
  • Academic Qualification certificates
  • Birth Certificate
  • Scanned copy of latest passport size photograph and signature
  • Valid Email ID for Registration

How to Apply?

The online CDS application form will consist of two parts registration. Applicants need to fill the form carefully without committing mistakes.

Part 1 Registration Phase

In this phase, aspirants will be required to fill their personal details, academic qualifications, and other basic details. Those details include-

Personal Details

  • Name
  • Parents Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Nationality
  • Residential Address
  • Fee Relaxation Claimed: Aspirants from SC/ST Category need not pay any application fees.

Academic Qualification Details

Aspirants will need to provide details of their academic qualification as per their eligibility criteria. Hence they should check their eligibility first before moving on to the form filling process.

Verification of Details

Once finishing with the application form, aspirants must ensure that the details they’ve entered are correct.

Registration ID Generation

On successful submission of part 1 application form, a unique system generated registration id will be provided to applicants. The details of which will be sent to their registered email ID.

Following that, Aspirants can now proceed with Part 2 registration Phase.

Part 2 Registration Phase

The Part 2 registration phase involves 3 parts. Aspirants are suggested to can check complete details of part 2 of the CDS application form as stated below –

  • Application Fee Payment.
  • Choice of Examination Centres.
  • Uploading of Photograph and Signature.

Application Fee Payment

The fee structure for CDS Application form for different categories is mentioned below–

  • For General and OBC: Rs.200/-
  • Female/SC/ST candidates are exempted from payment of application fees.

 The payment of application fee can be done via online mode & offline mode.

Offline Mode: Cash can be paid at any branch of State Bank of India all over India till the date mentioned above in the table.

Online Mode: fee can be paid through net banking/credit/debit card till the date mentioned in the table given above.

Note: Fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.

Choice of Exam Centre

Aspirants will get the liberty to choose the exam centre they want to take the exam in from the lists in drop down menu in the application form. Since centres are allotted on the basis of first come first serve, aspirants must apply early to get their preferred exam centre.

Uploading of Photograph and Signature

Aspirants will need to upload scanned copies of their latest passport size photograph and signature as per the standards provided by UPSC mentioned below for their reference –

  • Images must be in JPG format only.
  • The size of file should not exceed 40kb and must not be below 3kb for the photograph and 1 kb for signature.
  • The photograph image should be of 140 x 110-pixel size.
  • The signature image should be of 110 x 140-pixel size.
  • The signature of the candidate should be on a white paper with a black pen.

The part 2 Registration phase is over now. Aspirants can cross-check the form and make the necessary changes (if needed). They are then suggested to final submit the CDS Application Form and take its printout for future reference.

Note: Applicants must not send the hard copy of CDS Application Form or any other documents to UPSC at any stage unless asked by UPSC.
