CAT 2019- Preparation Tips, Application Form, Syllabus

The Indian Institute of Management is the responsible authority which conducts Common Admission Test (CAT 2019) for offering admission into a number of Post Graduate and Fellow programmes in Management. This national level test is conducted in two sessions at more than 130 exam centres located across the country.  The official advertisement for CAT 2019 is going to be released online in the month of July 2018. Meanwhile, candidates can have a look on important features of CAT exam 2019:

  • The official notification for conducting CAT 2019 exam will be released in the month of July 2019.
  • A candidate should be Graduate in any discipline to become eligible to apply for CAT exam.
  • CAT online registration 2019 will start in the month of August 2019.
  • The online application fee is Rs. 1800/- for General and Rs.900/- for SC/ST/PwD category candidates.
  • The exam will consist of 100 MCQ and Non-MCQ type questions.

What is the exam date for CAT 2019?

The exam will be conducted in the first week of November 2019. Candidates can download their respective admit card from third week of October 2019.

When is the Last date to apply for CAT Exam 2019?

The official notification for CAT exam 2019 is going to be announced in the month of July 2019. Candidates would be able to apply from second week of August 2019 till third week of September 2019.

What are the Eligibility Criteria for the CAT Exam 2019?

There are certain criteria defined for appearing in CAT 2019. Here are the minimum eligibility criteria for CAT:

Age Criteria

The IIM hasn’t notified any age criteria that need to be fulfilled by a candidate for appearing in CAT exam.

Educational Qualification

  • Minimum Educational Qualification: A Bachelor’s degree is the minimum qualification to appear in CAT exam. A candidate who possesses an equivalent exam as recognized by the MHRD, Government of India, he/she is also eligible to apply.
  • Marks in the Qualifying exam: A candidates who has obtained minimum 50% marks or its equivalent CGPA (45% for SC/ST/PwD) is only eligible to apply for the exam.
  • What about Appearing candidates?– They can apply.

What are the eligibility criteria for the scribe/reader for appearing in CAT exam 2019?

Though, there are not any dedicated criteria, however you have to bring a passport size photograph along with identity proof of your scribe or reader. Besides, you will have to sign a declaration regarding his/her educational qualification.

CAT 2019 Application Form- Online Registration Procedure

A candidate has to register online for CAT exam 2019. The registration process is going to be commenced in the month of August 2019. In the form, you will have to provide your personal, educational and communication details. Along with that, you will have to upload you recently taken photograph and signature with the prescribed size.

Until when is the CAT application form available?

As per the last year’s notification, it can be said that the form will be available till third week of September 2019. We will confirm you once the official notification releases in this regard.

How to fill up the CAT application form 2019?

Please follow the procedure in order to apply for CAT exam 2019:

  • Complete the registration first: First of all, you need to register for CAT exam 2019. For the same you need to go to the official website of CAT exam and click on ‘Registration for New User’. You will have to enter the details such as your name, date of birth, mobile number and email ID over here. After verifying your mobile number through OTP, you will receive your USER ID and Password to your registered email ID and mobile number.
  • Fill up the form: Now log in to your account with the same User ID and password and fill up the form by entering the personal, educational and communication details. Further you will have to upload your photograph, signature and category certificate.
  • Pay the fee: After filling the required details and uploading the necessary document you need to make the payment of application fee which is Rs. 900/- for SC/ST/PwD and Rs.1800/- for all other category candidates.

Can we edit the CAT application details?

Yes you can edit the details in the application form but in the restricted number of fields. You can make correction after log in to your account by using the same USER ID and Password.

What is the exam pattern for CAT 2019?

  • CAT exam will be a Computer Based Test conducted in two sessions. The exam will be conducted over duration of 3 hours.
  • The exam will consist of both objective and subjective type questions. There will be 100 questions in total.
  • For the every correct answer, three marks will be added to the total.
  • There will be no negative marking rule applicable in the exam.

CAT Selection Procedure 2019

IIM selects candidates for the second stage of selection based on their CAT score. The selection procedure varies from IIM to IIM; it may include Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interviews (PI). Yes, clearing CAT is essential; however IIMs may use certain other criteria to shortlist the candidates. Other factors may be used by IIM’s which includes past academic performance, relevant work experience and other related criteria.

CAT 2019 Admit Card

Candidates would be capable to download their respective admit card in the third week of October 2018. The mode of the availability of CAT admit card is online. There is no any other modes available for downloading the admit card. Candidates have to bring a valid admit car along with a photo identity proof at the time of coming to the exam centre.

CAT Result 2019

The result of the candidate will be released in the second week of January 2020. The list of shortlisted candidates will be published in online mode at its official website. Your CAT scorecard will be valid for one year. You can download it by entering your User ID and password.
